Computing Advising at Bethel University

Overview

Because this is your degree, you are the one ultimately responsible for the degree. It is your responsibility to know what courses you need to take to achieve your goals. It is your advisor's responsibility to make sure that you have all the resources necessary to make quality decisions in this process.

It is the goal of this website to provide you with the resources. It is not the goal of this website (or advising sessions) to plan out your degree for you. But instead it is to help you have enough information to decide what is best for you in meeting your own goals.

Implications

  1. The information you need should be easy to find and as correct as reasonably possible. This includes most things on this website and/or things discussed in advising sessions.
  2. You will need to decide what courses you will take when using those resources. Your advisor's job is to check your plan and make sure you have not missed anything. It is not to plan for you.
  3. Advising sessions are important to give you feedback on things that are unique to you.
  4. You are in charge of making sure you meet any necessary deadlines that have been explain on this website or in advising sessions. Once these deadlines are explained, they are then your responsibility to ensure they are done on time, not your advisor.
  5. While your advisor may send you reminders, the lack of any such reminder does not remove any obligations from you to do the things you are responsible for.
